BS 7875 This British Standard specifies requirements for saddle trees made from synthetic materials for saddles for general use (jumping, showing, hacking, dressage and similar activities) but excludes saddle trees for use with saddles for racing and side saddle.
NOTE BS 6635 specifies requirements for saddle trees made from wood.

6.1 The synthetic material and metal components used for the saddle tree shall be such that the saddle tree conforms to Clause 7 and Clause 8.
NOTE The synthetic material used for the saddle tree should be thermosta tic between 0 ‘C and 40 ‘C. It should have a Shore hardness of at least 90 between 20 °C and 40°C.
6.2 Gullets shall be of either:
a) pressed steel conforming to 85 1449-1 orBS EN 10111:2008, grade CR3 or grade HR4 P&O SAE 1008; or
b) forged steel conforming to BS EN 10083-2:2006, steel name C22E, steel number 1.1151; or
c) cast steel conforming to BS 3146-1:1974, type CIA 4; or
d) stainless steel conforming to type 304 HR or BS EN 10088-2. The gullets shall be not less than 2.95 mm thick and 25 mm wide at the apex of the plate.
NOTE Any finishing process should not affect the strength of the metal.
Rivets used for the fitting of stirrup bars shall be of mild steel
conforming to BS 641 and shall have a diameter of not less than
3.97 mm.When tested in accordance with Annex A, the deflection shall be not more than 10 mm and the saddle tree shall not be damaged.
When tested in accordance with Annex B, the permanent set shall be not more than 5 mm and the saddle tree shall not be damaged.
NOTE The test methods specified in Annex A and Annex B are static tests. Attention is drawn to the fact that other types of testing, such as dynamic stress testing, are currently in use. it is anticipated that future revisions of this document will include such methods.BS 7875 pdf download.
